Ryanair contact france has apologised for an incident on a flight from Bologna to Tel Aviv when a junior cabin crew member “innocently but inexplicably” announced that the aircraft would soon land in Palestine. In a letter to the Jewish human rights group Simon Wiesenthal Center, chief executive Eddie Wilson said the airline was “100% satisfied that this was an innocent mistake and that there was no political overtones or intent”. Several passengers complained after the announcement and a row gathered pace.

He also said the company is pressing the European Commission to force France to protect overflights when air traffic controllers strike. The strikes have resulted in hundreds of flights being cancelled at Paris-Orly and other French airports as staff who guide planes through the country’s airspace walk out. Mr O’Leary has called the move “utterly indefensible” and said it is costing customers €1.4 million a day.

The low-cost airline is based in Swords, Dublin and has its main operational bases at Dublin and London Stansted airports. It is Europe’s largest airline by scheduled passenger numbers and the busiest international airline. It operates a fleet of more than 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and is the largest operator of the type in the world.
